The word for the day is "Degringolade." It is that exact point in time, usually discernible only in retrospect, when things started to go to hell in a handcart.

I believe that people are the two-legged equivalent of fire ants, covering incredible distances and destroying everything in the path. I believe that most of us are not worthy to wipe the paws of our dogs. I believe that we imbue our activities with importance they hardly ever deserve, to justify our preoccupation with action over purpose. I believe that Michael Vick is evil. I believe that religion and spirituality are not synonymous. I believe that George Bush is petty, venial and spiteful. I believe in the power of language. I believe that there should be swift and terrible punishment for people who habitually say, "I have went." I believe my current favorite words are "ennui," "schadenfreude,"and "kakistocracy." I wish I could spell as many words as I know.
